Gold Coast Flathead Dash for Cash!

With the flathead season drawing to close (at least for the big numbers of fish) in south-east Queensland, there was one more event that Wilson Fishing and Zerek Lures wanted to fish - the Gold Coast Sportfishing Club's Dash for Cash.

This is a one day, run and gun event that sees all teams leave and return to the same boat ramp. The competition is held for a team's longest five flathead in total. Teams could be two or three people.

We had Team Wilson (Kord Luckus, Robbie and Leanne Payne) and Team Zerek (Troy Dixon, Clint Fannin and Sean Conlan) fishing for a share of the cash prize.

Both teams had rarely sighted the water since the Flathead Classic and were going in a little underprepared, but they told us they were there to have fun, which is the best way to go competition fishing..

This competition had a lot of big fish landed, showing how much flathead fishing has evolved recently. The warming and dirty water at this time of year is of little consequence and the competitors are working out effective ways to manage these conditions.

A well timed mix of trolling and casting was the preferred option for both teams and the Zerek Tango Shad and Zerek Fish Trap were the chosen weapons and both teams caught a big swag of fish. Team Wilson nailed some very impressive flathead during the competition including a 95cm beast and a 92cm monster! These two fish helped propel Team Wilson into first place overall with 5 flathead measuring in at 3.7m.

Team Zerek reached a total of just over 3m for their five flathead, a feat that in most other Dash for Cash events would have given them the win. Not this time though and they had to settle for a Top 5 finish

The big tips from the two teams was to not leave fish when you find them and troll when the tide is right for the area you want to fish.

This competition rounded out an extremely successful south-east Queensland flathead season for Wilson Fishing and Zerek lures.

Could you ask for more? I don't think so.
